Growth Spurt

Recent chaaanges to our daughter include, a dramatic physical growth spurt, an increasingly funny sense of humor and her always blooming kind heart. Thea has turned fourteen and we are all in wonder at her beauty and brains.

Big steps have included a first formal dance in which Thea and her friends meticulously dressed and primped. It is now more often that I walk by the children's bathroom and see girls staring endlessly into the mirror. I know they are trying to see who they are becoming. It is a treat to help apply makeup or shore up a hairdo, I feel grateful to even be let into this ritual. It also astounds me how this was the girl, who a few months ago was in a bathing suit with wild hair on the beach in Central America, with just as much grace.

Thea was able to wear a dress bought by Nana, a hairpiece designed by our dear friend and her son, heels that were on loan and an antique necklace of mine. Somehow this made her look ever so priceless,as I was reminded of how many people we have in our lives that love and support our family.

Thea just finished with the interview process for the Sacramento Waldorf School. She has pursued building her decision making skills by asking the opinions of those around her and questioning her own needs and wants. Bravo, Thea!

On Sunday, the community gathered to watch the eighth graders weave the Maypole. The saturated colors of the ribbon, abundant flowers and smiling faces were the back drop for this ritual of the promise of spring. This class of kids is ending a part of their journey together as they head off to high school, they are a strong and energetic group. I look forward to seeing them find their paths out of the lower school. This was a teary, happy moment for all of us and a gorgeous spring day to boot.
